Our very good friends the O’Kane’s are opening up a pub just outside of London. They purchased the place several months back and have been refurbishing it for a grand opening in early October. This weekend they both had to be up there to get the final touches all squared away and as much as Ethan and Amy wanted to go with ’em there was that whole pesky school thing to contend with so much to Sydney’s unabashed excitement they are staying with us for the weekend and the first few days of school next week. Sydney’s already told us its going to be just like having a brother and sister for a week.
You will not meet two nicer kids. They’re helpful, cheery, independent – an all around blast to have here. They’re both very sporty so we’ve been planning menus since we knew for certain they were coming over to make sure the didn’t sit over here and not have anything to eat. Last night we already had plans with others so dinner was pretty lame – pizza – but what kid doesn’t like pizza. Three ordered and two down. We did waffles and bacon for breakfast and apparently they wholeheartedly adopted the Godwin bacon philosophy – I cooked the waffles and Anita did the bacon. Once theirs were done everything went to the table and I cooked the last round of waffles for us. In between the time the bacon hit the table and I showed up 3-4 minutes later with our waffles a pound and a half of bacon was gone! Impressive.
Since they’re used to this sort of thing and as I love to have any excuse to cook too much we’re having a proper Sunday dinner on Saturday night. I’ve got a turkey and a ham! Anita has whipped up her famous mac-n-cheese. I’m adding my loaded mashed potatoes and Jenny is kicking in some of Tom’s biscuits – she’s got the recipe down and in all honesty has been improving upon it. It smells like the holidays again – turkey, bread, ham… yum!
So, its been a really fun couple of days so far and Sydney is just pleased as punch that they’re hear for a couple more. Check out some pix below.
