If you’ve been living under a rock and weren’t aware that this year is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee let me tell you that it is. Living in a former colony with many UK nationals, sending our daughter to a school in the UK system, being involved with Girl Guides UK – we are VERY aware of the historical nature of the celebration. In all honestly its pretty cool and has been a lot of fun. There was a party at school and tonight we were invited to the British Embassy in Kuwait to celebrate in a proper fashion. It was a great time. All of Sydney’s teachers were there – even some from years past. Practically everyone in Kuwait that Anita knew was there too. We went with Cat & Andy and had a blast. We also met two other ‘yanks’ from Tennessee – Bill & Janet Robinson who were very nice – I hope we get to see more of them. Bill works for the company that owns several of the big restaurant chains in town so as soon as we sat down plate after plate of burgers, and fish & chips, and sushi started rolling in – AWESOME! There was a round of ‘God Save the Queen’ lots of toasts and was in general a really fun time. There were even vendors there selling small remembrances to mark the occasion – Anita bought a scarf and a tea cup (looks more like a coffee mug but what do I know – I don’t drink either). Not many pics from the embassy as big guys with guns generally jump out at you when you show up there with cameras now but there are some from the school party below.
