So yesterday was “Literary Character Fancy Dress Day” at school. Fancy dress is a pretentious English way of saying costume. Anyways, linguistic differences aside its always fun to see the kids dress up. In typical Sydney fashion she was decked out from head to toe in sequins in her Dorthy costume. She even came complete with Toto in a basket! Anita had to scour Kuwait to find some ruby slippers but came through as usual. Of course for like the last two years every store from the bakery down the street to the electronics store carried sequined shoes in ever imaginable color – but as soon as we need some red one there are none to be found anywhere. Typical. But anyways, Syd had a great time retelling the ‘Wizard of Oz’ to all the kids none of whom seemed to have ever even heard of the story/movie/anything. Sad but true. Sydney really liked the costume and wore it the rest of the day until it was time for bed – which is probably a good thing since I’m sure she’s already outgrown it. It was a little on the short side to start with and the girl wakes up taller every day so yesterday may have been the last hoo-rah from that costume. Anyways, here’s a handful of pix – enjoy.
