Glamping in Kuwait

So for the uninitiated “glamping” is a mash up of glamour & camping and has something to do with a frilly, girly version of camping.  While camping for most Godwin’s entails staying in a hotel with less than 4 stars this glamping thing was right up Sydney’s alley.  So much so that she and her bestie Amy decided that they’d do a Glamping Birthday Co-party this year.    The girls have been gearing up for this for a while now and starting the day before Anita, Paula, Colin, and I started getting everything ready to go.

First things first.  Almost all glamping online centers around some really posh tents and the accompanying tent fillers.  Being all out of posh tents at the moment we did the best we could in our living room.  Using practically every sheet we had in the house, a few million zip ties, a ton of net lights, and a little imagination we were able to transform our living room into a reasonable approximation of a standard Kuwaitia tent.  Of course there was the internet connected TV but also plenty of plush seating after we blew up two queen sized mattresses, squished them between the couches and covered everything in pillows and blankets.  The pictures didn’t really capture the whole scope of the tent but it it was pretty nifty none the less.

The glampers started arriving and the real started.  Paula’s party games were a big hit.  Hot dogs and vegies for dinner.  A screening of Troop Beverly Hills.  Roasting marshmallows over an actual fire.  Party poppers and favor bags.  Even a chocolate fountain!  And that was all before we got the girls in bed!

As with any sleepover there was a lot of giggling and other assorted silliness prior to everyone finally heading off to sleep.  I’m pretty sure my last “goodnight girls” from the top of the stairs was somewhere around midnight.  Of course it was barely 6AM before I heard the Media Center power back on so they got an early start of it.  Anita and I rolled out and I went downstairs to start the pancakes of many colors.  Paula brought the donuts for the donut cake and the girls dug in.  Once the rest of the glampers were picked up Amy & Sydney tore into the presents.  All in all it was a great little party and a happy birthday all around!

As would be expected they were up before the rest of us…
