When Syd was younger she was a bit of a thumb sucker at night and it has had the expected effect on her teeth. Last year when we saw the dentist we also saw an orthodontist who suggested she needed a retainer. That was back before the summer so we had to wait until the girls got back home to get things started. We made an appointment in September at the Balsam Dental Clinic and went in so they could make a mold of Syd’s mouth. They did and said to they’d call us to make an appointment for a month later when the doc would be back and the appliance would be ready. So they called earlier this week and said we had to come in by Saturday. We rolled in earlier today the doc gets Syd all ready and no appliance – actually the wrong retainer. The doc goes on to tell us that it’s no problem, he’ll get the lab to make another lickety split and we could just come back later. Now to locals later means like 9PM. Since this is a school night and Syd is bed by 7PM that wasn’t going to work. It was his issue so we pushed him to get it done earlier and he agreed. They pop another mold in Syd’s mouth and go to work. The doc said to come back at 4PM and he’d get it fit for Syd and we’d be home in plenty of time for dinner and bed time. So we had several hours to kill until then and went to grab some lunch, hit the grocery store, I even got sucked into shoe shopping, but we managed to kill the time we had to wait and rolled back to the clinic. The second time around we were in and out in less than 30 minutes and most of that time was spent explaining to Syd how to take care of her appliance. Sydney’s friend Amy has a retainer too so they’re going to form a little club. So far it’s a very cool thing which is good. We have to go back about once a month to check on her progress so hopefully next time we’ll have before and after pictures!
